                               TRACK BASH AT SNETTERTON!!

Alright, I had to make a serious decision before I started today’s blog. Do I keep it Professional or do I speak what I am thinking completely unfiltered? Now this isn’t one of those “I tell it how it is, because I’m a badass and if you don’t like it, don’t read it” post. If you have to say “I tell it how it is” then you probably are full of shit. Other people make that judgment, not you. But, this was a sincere thinking that I had to do. Being involved with the Military and with an RC magazine I had to think it out. So the decision was to speak my mind.

WARNING: The next paragraph will be complaining/whining/bitching/moaning however you see it. If you just want to read about the RC part of my day, skip the next paragraph and continue afterwards. Here we go.

Being in the military stationed overseas, you have the privilege of shopping on base at American prices. This is great as the local prices are quite high compared to what we would pay in the states. Our privileges include; Petrol, Food, clothing and most other items you would find at department stores. Now, we also get to order from the states and have cheap shipping and no taxes added.  Another great benefit of serving My country! If we are caught abusing these privileges we would get in a shit load of trouble. So for instance if we bought a product from the states and sold it here for British prices we are abusing our postal benefits. Since this is a RC Blog I will use an RC related example. There is a car that I have called the Team Associated B5.  The price in the states is, $239.97 (£142.84) the same car here in the UK is $369.58 (£219.99). So I could make roughly $130.00 just by selling it to someone here. I obviously don’t do that because I like being in the military and I also like my benefits I get while I am here. So why would I want to risk them? My true mates here understand this and do not ask me to do these things. 1. They know I wouldn’t and 2. They don’t want to get me in trouble. A couple of them asked before they knew. As soon as I said I could get in trouble they immediately apologized and said that they didn’t want that to happen! Those are the true friends. But today, that was not the case. Some guy in a store (name with held) heard my accent and asked which base I was from. I told him and we had a casual conversation while he helped me with what I was buying. Then just before I leave he said it. Hey if can you do me a favour? I will pay you for it. I thought what the hell is he talking about. He says “If you can get me American Soda I will pay you for it. Just grab me 100 cans. I told him “sorry I could get in a lot of trouble for that” so he says well just get me like 50. I was civil and just ignored it basically. I don’t even know you man, why would you ask that? Rant over…….

Alright, so I stayed up a bit late getting some cars ready for today. So this morning I just had to load up and leave, I somehow only had one 6 cell NiMh and I needed one for the mini and one for the F1. So I thought I would have a look round the store when I got there.   When I got there they had Absima stick packs. It was 4200 25C for £32.99. I asked if he could get me one out of the display case. He asked what it was for, so I answered it was for a load of old Tamiyas. I thought he was just curious. But I was wrong!! (yes same guy as above) He said, we have NiMhs they would be better. I just said thanks but I want this. He asked what kind of motor was in it, I told him the stock 540 silver cans. He asked how many turns, I said doesn’t matter. He then told me something I never knew! LiPos will melt the Tamiya motors! OH NO, I never knew that! Quick, sell me more shit!!!! Seriously? Who thinks this way? After I convinced him I was buying the damn LiPo despite his health and safety pitch he then continued to teach me about batteries. He try to sell me a bigger battery; I said no, I need it to fit the old Tamiya side by side cell battery compartments. He then tried to sell me a Black Magic 3800; I said I wanted the 4200. But he said the 3800 was 30c so it was waaaaay better! I said 1, its 5c difference, 2. The other is 4200 Mah and 3 GIVE ME THE DAMN BATTERY!! Guess what the battery worked a treat. Rant over part 2. Sorry….
So here I am at the track, after getting out of the van going back in the store to get directions to somewhere I could see while I was in the store. (They changed the roadway to it) I went straight to the guy I knew knows RC, not the guy from before. He was cool and helped me out. (Mental note, only talk to this guy from now on.) Back outside and found the way to the track no problem. Got the table out sat out the Rc’s for the day (HPI Ken Block WR8 3.0, Tamiya F2012, M-05 and Lunch Box) Threw the newly acquired Battery of Death on the charger and put the old NiMh in the M-05.

I’m gonna just wrap this up with a quick overview; you’re welcome. The Mini and the F2012 diidn’t have a lot of traction on the track at Snetterton. They could definitely do with some stickier tyres. The Ken Block however stuck like glue mostly. I have included some pics and will be writing about the Ken Block in a upcoming RRCI issue. Thanks for reading and sorry for the rants part 1 and 2. If you enjoyed this please leave me a comment so that I know these are getting read! Lol Cheers peeps!

Time for a tidy up!

My garage/workshop has been neglected for too long. Between the wreck I had on the motocross track and the recovery on the couch from my dislocated shoulder to the trip to Birmingham to do some testing for the magazine, I have made a right mess of the garage! Boxed rc's for review and bits everywhere! On top of all that, I have the new B5m to build and review as well as a new Tamiya on-road car to build for a meet at Snetterton where Iconic-RC are putting on a meeting of like minded individuals! And I have managed to buy an F1 Ferrari from my mate Andy "twinset" Moore. Can't wait to run them along with my M-05 and my beloved Tamiya Lunch Box! Jamie Cheshire and I will be up to our normal obsessive Obsessing over all the Tamiya cars we HAVE to have! I'm sure he will only bring a small portion of his collection, probably around 50 or so cars! Lol but on to business get this mess sorted and get into build mode this weekend! Plus I still have to do my write up for the EPIC testing of the Ken Block WR8 3.0!
